About Me
Hi, I am Cajamo. This is a little bit of info on myself and how I was able to justify my info on this article. I have been a streamer on twitch since 2017. I have been streaming part time on twitch since 2018. For the last 4 years I have been experimenting on twitch to figure out the best ways to grow and gain viewers on twitch.I will be listing below some of the main things that I have found throughout my experience that have had a positive effect on my stream with a massive increase in viewership.
Stream schedule
Stream Times
Many streamers that start streaming on twitch think that streaming for a long amount of hours will increase viewership. However I have been able to justify that streaming for a long amount of hours when you first start actually doesn't help your stream.
When you first start streaming it's actually better to stream around 3-5hr per stream.
The reason for this is not just burning out yourself which will happen but you can also burn out your viewers as well when over streaming.
When streaming it's better to focus on hyping your stream which will die out if you over stream especially if you're streaming almost everyday. It's better to focus on other ways to gain viewership then streaming for too long.
Stream days
When planning out your streams it is better to figure out what is the best day to stream on and what times of the day.
Now this really depends on your audience that you are targeting and what games you are playing. For example if you're targeting a younger audience it's better to stream later in the day on a weekday. Overall it's best to stream on a weekend. And if you are streaming on a weekday it's better to target later in the week wednesday-friday. If you are trying to get the best growth and a weekday aim for later in the day 4-5pm your time as most people work or in education.
Networking
Even though networking gets brought up a lot when it comes to streaming on twitch. Many new or small streamers either lack networking or simply just don't know how to network correctly.
Streamers
When streaming on twitch it's very important to network with other streamers. It's best to get in the mindset that other streamers are not competition but someone that can help.
When networking with other streamers it's valid to connect with other streamers that are live and simply chatting to them on their stream. However we have found that connecting with streamers on social media such as discord or twitter is best as they have an increased chance of getting back to you. This could be a simple interaction such as a like, comment on a post and or a Dm.
Streamers make many mistakes when networking with other streamers. These mistakes might contain them getting an interaction then not following up and or just only contacting them when they're going live. When you have started connecting with streamers make sure to share feedback and ideas that can help with their streams. This will increase the chance of them getting back to you and helping you out. When you have genuinely shown that you are not just contacting them for the sake of you only benefiting you can make a healthy networking relationship that can benefit you and the person that you are networking with.
You will have bad interactions with steamers but don't let that discourage you.
Viewers
Many streamers forget that keeping up with their viewers off stream can also increase the chance of them coming back to your stream.
This can be a simple message or Dm thanking them for coming into the stream or asking how they are.
This shows the viewer that you are genuinely thankful for their support.
This can also increase the chances of them recommending you to others allowing you to gain viewership.
Games
Streamers that are starting out tend to start playing games that are heavily saturated on twitch. Streamers stream massive games only to get discouraged by the lack of viewership. Other streamers tend to struggle to figure out what games are best for growth
Game suggestions
When deciding to pick a game to play on twitch for the sake of growth. It's better to play games that has high chat interaction, that are free and or have a big community but a lack of streamers on twitch streaming the game.
We have figured out that streaming games that involve chat to join or play will increase growth. Also games that are free to play have an increased chance of gaining more followers and viewers. We have an article already on the top 10 games to play on twitch for growth (Top 10 games to play on twitch for growth).
This article will show you what games we have found increase growth easily for smaller streamers.
It’s best to play one game at the start as this can cause consistant viewership however sticking to one game can get boring overtime for yourself and your regulars. We have found that every so often swapping to play another game for a stream can increase regulars to come back. Make sure to stick to the same type of game (fps, mmos, rpg’s etc) as swapping to a completely different game can cause viewership to decrease.
If you want to swap from your main game try to stick to the same genre that your main game was as this can keep viewers and not have a massive decrease in viewers.
Social Media
Many smaller streamers don't use social media to its full potential or they don't use social media at all. Social media is a huge part of streaming on twitch as you are going to gain more followers and viewers from outside of twitch then on if you use social media to it’s full potential.
Socials
Streamers will tend to make one account per social media. We have found that making more than one account per platform can increase the chance of gaining more viewers. We have also found that naming your accounts something related to the content you upload or something that streamers on twitch look for can increase interaction compared to naming your social media platforms your stream name. For example name your socials your main games name then add tips or facts at the end.
We are not saying don't have a social where it's your stream name just that you should have more than one per social and name it something interesting other than your stream name.
Streamers should be active on all social medias constantly promoting or advertising their stream in some way.
When your using your social media just like we talked about with networking with streamers don't just post when your going live interact with other streamers as much as you can off and on stream on socials media.
Websites
Streamers tend to focus all on the same saturated platforms youtube tik tok which are good but don't look for other ways outside of twitch to grow.
We have found that making websites and articles also can gain you a lot of attention to your stream. This is because a lot of streamers are not doing this or only focusing on promoting on the same platforms and are also not aware of the embedded feature.
Streamers are not aware or don't use the embedded feature enough. This is why websites are very important. If you make your own website you can put your stream on the website and everyone who joins your website while your streaming will count towards a view. We have an article on how you can do this (how to embed your twitch channel on websites)
You can get traction on your websites very easily and if you embed your stream to your websites it can have a massive increase in viewership .
Conclusion
We have found that these elements have helped us the most over the 4 years when growing on twitch. Following some of these will increase your viewership overtime.
If you would like more info on some of these elements we will be doing an article on each individual chapter but with more specific detail.
Growing on twitch is not easy if you don't know what you are doing and we hope that this article gives you some insight on the best ways to grow on twitch.
Thank you.
